With the weather finally being above freezing for more than five minutes, it seems like all of Boston is venturing out to brunch on weekends, including my friends and me. Even though brunch is arguably not a real meal at all, it is most definitely the best part about weekends, and arguably one of the best parts of spring and summer. Here are the five stages of brunch along with some places to enjoy it around BC.
Stage 1—Cityside
Ahhh another weekend morning afternoon full of promise and things to check off the checklist, I think it would be super fun to go out to brunch with some friends. It will probably be quick and I’m sure they have some really healthy options. I’m just going to limit myself to one mimosa, two tops.
Stage 2—Johnny’s in Newton Center
It’s now 2 pm because it takes three hours to decide where to finally go, and I am literally starving to the point of extreme hanger, pretty sure I could eat everything. I’m going to order a pitcher of iced coffee to start and see where it goes from there. This is the biggest menu that I’ve ever seen, how am I ever supposed to decide? Oh this special has one of everything, done. Well I really only want the pancakes, eggs, and like one slice of bacon max so it’s really not that unhealthy. I’ll get a side of fruit, it’s whatever.
Stage 3—Deluxe Town Diner
We’re officially one hour and two mimosas deep into brunch and food has finally arrived (cue the happy tears). The waiter was totally judging me when he brought out the five plates of food that came with my meal, but I’m splitting it with my roommates so it’s really not that much, right? It counts for breakfast and lunch so that’s double the calories, and we can walk home instead of taking the T (exercise).  Probably not though, I’m suddenly super tired.
Stage 4—Zaftig’s
Hour two, the food is gone and so is our dignity. Everyone is done, but way too tired to even think about moving anywhere outside of this booth, so we will continue taking small bites and pretending they aren’t making us nauseous. It’s almost four pm and today’s to-do list is totally shot, but brunch is worth it right? Sorry Monday classes, you’ll have to wait.
Stage 5 and a warning to all—Stephanie’s on Newbury
After leaving brunch, and losing some of the initial sparkle that bottomless mimosas and endless pancakes offer, you will likely be feeling like a ball of carbs and like each step towards your car may be the last one you ever take. But, have no fear, brunch is best enjoyed on weekends and so you have a whole week to prepare for the next glorious attempt. Time to go take a nap, it’s almost dinner time anyways.
