5 Ways to Motivate Yourself Until Finals

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

With Thanksgiving here and winter break only a few weeks away, it can be difficult to stay motivated to complete what seems like an eternity’s worth of papers, presentations, and preparation for finals. Here are a few tips to help you feel inspired and ready to tackle finals week.

Find Encouraging Quotes

Quotes can be a great way to keep you motivated. Set one as your phone background, your desktop background, or even write one on the bookmark you use for class readings. Make a collage and hang it up, or paint your own! By reading these quotes, you’ll be reminded of your goals and have some extra energy to finish that 10 page paper or calculus problem set.

Exercise

One of the best ways to stay energized is to exercise. Find an activity and get moving: yoga, Zumba, running, tackling the elliptical, whatever works best for you. Go with a friend, catch up, and take a break from schoolwork. You’ll not only feel more relaxed and refreshed, but you’ll also physically feel better.

Buy a Coloring Book

These coloring books, which can normally be found at Barnes and Noble, are actually made for adults. Coloring can be calming and therapeutic, and occupying your mind with something other than words and numbers can be just what you need amidst studying. The designs in these books are more intricate and detailed, and are the perfect distraction from work. Tap into your artistic side and try one out!

Listen to Music

The right playlist makes a huge difference. Spotify and Pandora both have a wide variety of playlists of both calm and upbeat music, or you can choose to create your own. Try mixing up slower and fast-paced songs for the best results; just when you start to feel tired, an upbeat song can pick you up!

Treat Yourself

Most importantly, treat yourself. While schoolwork can be all-consuming at times, it’s crucial to step away from it and take a break. Indulge in a sweet treat, have an at-home spa day, or watch an episode of your favorite show on Netflix. Maybe even try to get into the city for a few hours with friends in order to step off of campus and catch up; it’ll give you the break you need while inspiring you to get back to work.

Hopefully these tips will help all of you collegiettes!

She spends her free time getting addicted to shows on Netflix (it happens to the best of us), napping, and taking Buzzfeed quizzes.
