The 5 Weekend Trips You Need to Take This Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Fall in the Northeast is the best.  The changing leaves, chilly nights, and long weekends that lend themselves to adventures fill your autumn days with excitement.  The question is, where to go?  Luckily, we live in Boston, where access to travel is super easy and inexpensive.  Here are some options for a weekend getaway that will help you take advantage of new opportunities to explore!

The Classic NYC Trip

Take the bus, take the train, or hop in the car with your girls and you can be in the Big Apple in less than four hours.  Crash on a couch, use airbnb, or spring for a hotel and spend forty-eight hours scoping out the big city.  There are an endless amount of bars, clubs, and brunch spots to keep you well hydrated, but there are also a ton of free events, exhibits, and happy hours to keep your wallet feeling stuffed.  There is nothing like fall in Central Park to overload your Instagram with pics of your morning walk…while eating a bagel….with lox….and a pumpkin spice latte.

The Cape Cod Getaway

Cape Cod is just a quick skip away from Boston, and this time of year the deals are unbeatable.  So what if it’s a little chilly? Wrap yourself in a warm sweatshirt and walk along the beach to get away from the school week. Groupon has a ton of deals for cheap hotels; some of which include lobster dinners and bike rentals!

Vermont in the winter!

The Outdoor Adventure in Vermont

Vermont is nothing but perfect in the fall.  Take advantage of our close proximity to the Green Mountain State and watch the leaves change from the mountains!  Now is the best time to camp, hike and sip beer at the Harpoon Brewery.  As the winter gets closer, Vermont has some of the best skiing close to Boston! Treat yourself to some new hiking socks and hit the road!

The Day Trip to Salem

October is the best time to absorb the history and culture of Salem.  As Halloween approaches, take some time to read up on the dark history and brave the cold on a walking ghost tour! Salem is a great day trip and easy to combine with the apple picking afternoon that is a staple of your fall in Boston.

View of modern art at the MFA!

The Staycation

You can probably make a list of ten things that you have never experienced in Boston—and now is your chance!  Go walk the Freedom Trail, try a new restaurant in the North End, or hit the MFA for a free afternoon of culture.  Go sip beers at the Sam Adams Brewery, hit up the new boutiques on Newbury, or go on the Cupcake Tour of Boston!  The four years you spend here will fly by, so don’t pass up on a local adventure!

I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
