Let’s just get it out there: Graduation is less than 2 months away, and let’s face it, April and May seem to last about 2 seconds at BC no matter what year you are. And, if you’re anything like me, this is freaking you out. Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate the excitement of reaching a major life milestone and starting real life, but ummmm, sorry, can I just stay at BC instead? No, no I can’t.
So as I began face the reality of growing up and leaving BC, I did what any functional adult would do and turned to Disney movies. Not so surprisingly, our favorite childhood films have great life advice, and a lot of it is very applicable to this point in our lives in which we are about to leave the comforts of BC and begin the next chapter of our lives.
Rather than being afraid of the uncertainties we will face as we navigate a career, independence, and paying bills—remember Ellie and Carl’s motto:
When updating your resume and writing cover letters becomes never ending, channel your inner Dori:
When we get out there, after graduation, it’s probably going to be tough. But I think Peter Pan was onto something:
…and of course hard work. But we’re BC graduates, we know what that’s about. Just like Hercules:
If people tell you you’re crazy for having certain goals, or a dream job, don’t let the haters get you down because Alice and the Mad Hatter get you:
It won’t always be easy. There will most likely be a new challenge every day. Sometimes the challenges will be fun, and sometimes not so much, but hey—you’re a BC grad, an amazing person, and you’ve seen Winnie the Pooh—you got this!
There will probably be a time in the next year or so when you step back and are so impressed with your adult self, out there in the real world, being a functional human. And then you’ll remember when it was not only 100% acceptable to go out to MAs on a Tuesday night, but expected, and think, whoa where did that time go? Sadly, Tuesday nights might not be a thing beyond senior year at BC. I mean I don’t know for sure, but it’s the word on the street.
But if those rumors are in fact true, who’s to say you can’t do a throwback and celebrate Senior Night on a Tuesday for old time’s sake? I say do it and go buy some Rubinoff, because I agree with Snow White:
So let’s live up these last months and soak up as much BC as we can! Because we will never get a do-over on senior year, but what’s up next won’t be so bad either. A new set of adventures and challenges—a whole new world, if you will—await us, and I for one, am looking forward to it.
Plus, if Disney can’t help you get through this kind of thing, I honestly don’t know what can. So, in the words of those adorable little dwarfs:
Heigh ho, Heigh ho, it’s off to work we go!
