It is a majority sentiment that laundry is never a fun item on the to-do list. It’s called a chore for a reason. This is an especially legitimate reality at BC. Whether you’re scavenging for extra quarters, lugging laundry baskets up flights of stairs, waiting for the one minute remaining on the machine for 15, finding someone has dumped your clothes somewhere to make room for their own, or noticing your clothes are still damp after two dry cycles, there is always some frustrating component to the task.
With laundry on campus so tedious and irritating, it may be easy to convince yourself not to wash everything as often as you should. How often should laundry be washed? Here are some guidelines and rules for when it is time to wash all of your laundry:
Bras:
Wash every three to four wears and alternate which bra you wear each day so that the bra’s elastic has time to reshape
Jeans:
Wash every five wears because they are durable and too frequent of washing will wear them out
Pajamas:
Wash about every four wears as little movement during sleep keeps your clothes cleaner longer
Pillows:
Wash every three to six months to avoid dust and fungi
Sheets:
Wash once a week to remove dust, sweat and build up and to prevent acne breakoutsÂ
Workout Clothes:
Wash workout clothes made of cotton and other fabrics that easily become damp with sweat after one wear, but water resistant fabrics can withstand an extra wear or two
Are you doing your laundry as often as you should be? It’s a pain, but a pain worth enduring for cleanliness.Â
