BC SymBa Presents: Light and Gold

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Boston College’s Symphonic Band (commonly known as SymBa) is one of the many ensembles in the Bands Department. SymBa, directed by David Healey, is an extremely unique ensemble that is open to the entire Boston College community, including current students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members. SymBa holds 2 concerts in the fall semester, the first of which is this Tuesday, November 18th at 8PM in Gasson 100.

The program, entitled “Light and Gold,” consists of 5 classical pieces. The title piece, “Lux Aurumque,” will be conducted by guest conductor Christopher Holland. SymBa will also be performing “Folk Dances,” a Dmitri Shostakovich piece and “Tempered Steel,” composed by Charles Young. Another guest conductor, Reynaldo Santana, will conduct “Adagio.” SymBa will also play the fourth movement from Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.”

The program will last around an hour, and there will be a reception to follow (with cookies!). SymBa will also host another concert in December featuring holiday selections, including the always-popular “Sleigh Ride.” If you are interested in joining SymBa, rehearsals are Monday nights from 7-9PM in the Band Room. You can email bcsymphonicband@gmail.com with any questions, or check out the Boston College Symphonic Band Facebook page! We look forward to seeing you in Gasson 100 on Tuesday night!
