Unless you live under a rock at Boston College, you’ve heard that our football team is headed to a Bowl game for the second year in a row! This year, the dudes of BC football are off to Yankee Stadium to play Penn State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The game will be on Saturday, December 27th at 4:30 PM, and will be broadcast on ESPN.
The Eagles finished this season with a 7-5 record, including an incredibly memorable win over USC early on in the season. Tyler Murphy has been extremely solid for the Eagles this year: he broke the ACC record for single-season rushing yards by a quarterback. Our defense has also had a pretty great season. Our most major issue has been kicking. We’ve shuffled around three kickers this season, and none has been better than the one before him. If the dudes had made a few more field goals, we probably could have ended this season 9-3 or 10-2.
Comparatively, BC has more yards and more rushing yards on average than Penn State, and more average points per game. Keep your eye on Jon Hilliman, the freshman tailback, who is second place in the ACC for touchdowns (12) and rushing yards (712), and expect him to keep doing big things for the Eagles. Sources are undecided about who will win the game: some say BC, some say Penn State. Personally, I think it’ll be a BC victory, but we’ll have to wait and see!
Since the game is so close to BC, it’s sure to be packed with Superfans. The Band will be playing, so you’re sure to hear “For Boston” tons of times! The coolest part of this game, though, is that it’s at Yankee Stadium. Even as a die-hard Red Sox fan, I’m excited to spend the afternoon in Yankee Stadium and have a once in a lifetime experience there!
We wish the Eagles lots of luck in their battle with Penn State!
