This fall, I saw a few Facebook posts from friends and various online companies about applying to be a campus rep. Some of my friends were reps in the fall and from what I saw, it looked like a lot of sharing posts and publicizing whatever company they represented. After applying and getting accepted as a Serengetee Rep for this Spring, here are some things I’ve learnt about being a campus rep and why you should consider applying to be one come next fall.
1. Addition to your resume (and improve skills). A lot of campus rep stuff involves social media, publicity, and events. Regardless of your degree, it’s always helpful to be able to navigate social websites and have evidence backing up your ability to coordinate and work with groups.
2. It’s not a huge time commitment, but it still teaches responsibility. Let’s be honest, you spend enough time on social media so thirty seconds to share a picture really isn’t that bad. Whether it’s an email or a Facebook page or text, as a campus rep you will have someone directing you. It’s a relatively easy way to get used to checking your emails and responding to requests in a timely manner.
3. You get to meet new people! As with any internship/job/adventure/road trip/etc., you’re bound to encounter some new faces. There are other BC Serengetee Reps, people you’ll meet while publicizing, and people you might meet if you decide to collaborate with another student group. Even if you do not become best friends with each of these people, networking is always an important skill to gain
4. It’s fun! If you do it for a company you like, it’s nothing but perks. Discounts and free stuff are only some of the benefits of being a campus rep. Serengetee not only offers a rep discount, but it is also an amazing company that donates some of their proceeds to charities around the world. It’s shopping for a cause, which helps elevate some of that post-shop money spent guilt. Â Â
