Best Kept Secrets of BC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Divulging secrets? Let’s do it. Some of BC’s best kept secrets are in some of the places we dread the most (i.e. the Plex and Newton….)

The Plex:

If you’re an outdoors person, or you just want to take advantage of the last few nice days, head to the Plex to rent anything from backpacking equipment to paddle boarding gear. If you’re interested in a more “organized” outdoor adventure, check out BC’s Outdoor Adventures’ tab on the Plex website.

The Newt:

After living on Newton Freshman year, I’m pretty sure I’ve had enough bus rides to last me a lifetime. But! If you ever find yourself walking around in O’Neill on a Sunday afternoon or during finals without a spot to grab, head over to the Newt. It has tons of empty law school lecture halls and classrooms that are perfect for getting work done. Bonus: minimal library creatures and decreased chances of running into Saturday’s hookup.

Taking Candy From Strangers:

The Women’s Center, located on the first floor of McElroy Commons, offers free candy and the occasional baked goods to anyone who asks. The Women’s Center helps and supports both women and men with a variety of issues. So, feel free to grab candy and vent.

Faculty Dining:

Not just for the teacher’s pet. In the Faculty Dining Room on the top floor of McElroy, you can enjoy “gourmet,” restaurant-like food for $25 off your meal plan. You and your friends just have to make reservations beforehand, show up, grub, and then swipe your card at the end.

Make reservations here.

More Strategy than Secret:

We probably all hate the people who use the backside of the Hillside elevator, unless we’re the ones doing it. For those of you who don’t know, the backside of the leftmost elevator usually opens before the front side. If you’re really cramming for time, or just want a guaranteed spot on the elevator, head to the backside. Caution: Expect glares and jealousy.

I realize that writing an article about secrets doesn’t exactly help to keep them “secrets,” but I trust that this information will be used for the betterment of your BC career. You’re welcome.

Born and raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Kelly is a Senior at Boston College studying Communications and Marketing. She loves the fashion and beauty industries. She's had lots of experience with women and their tastes, given her all-girls high school background. At BC, she's involved in Strong Women Strong Girls, Student Admissions Program, and is an account management intern for Hill Holliday . When she catches a break, Kelly spends an obscene amount of time on Buzzfeed, rewatching Breaking Bad on Netflix, and attempting to workout.
I am a Political Science major and Women's and Gender Studies minor at Boston College. I am an RA on campus and am involved in the Student Admissions Program. Since I am from Florida, I can legitimately say that I love long walks on the beach. I also love getting lost in a world fabricated by a novel, there is honestly nothing better.
