What if you could be that ray of sunshine in someone’s day? The icing on the cake? Especially during these stressful times of final presentations and exams, a simple compliment may be all we need to make our day better. The Boston College Compliments page on Facebook has quickly become a popular place to gain a boost of self-confidence. It is where friends, acquaintances, students, professors, or anyone you have impacted positively at BC, can send an anonymous compliment to be posted. Since the page launched on December 2, I have seen the number of “likes” jump from 700 to over 1,000 in less than 24 hours.
Started by students from Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada, these compliment pages started as a social experiment designed to create a more positive atmosphere on campus. The page soon spread to over 56 colleges in Canada, the United States, and even Europe. I’ve read all of the compliments from “(Insert name) can light up a room with her laugh and smile” to flirtatious “I want (insert name)’s babies. He’s so hot.”
This Facebook page could not have come at a better time, with the stress of finals looming around the corner, and the season of giving in full swing. So, make someone’s day and send a compliment to that boy who you think is cute in your class, or the girl who you see in Hillside with the cutest winter boots, your awesome roommates who you’ve lived with since freshmen year. Trust me, it is the little things that matter.
