Countdown to the Oscars: How to Throw the Perfect Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

While I admittedly may be completely obsessed with the Oscars and awards show season in general, I think that throwing an Oscars viewing party with friends would be so fun! The Oscars fall on the first Sunday of Spring Break this year, which is even more convenient if you and your friends are already all together somewhere warm and tropical (with TV of course). In order to get some great ideas for this article, I turned to Pinterest for fun tips, sips, and printables.  I am definitely going to have a mini viewing party with my friends and I’m sure they will (at least pretend to) love all of these adorable ideas!

1. Official Oscars 2014 Ballot

This printable ballot is a great thing to pass out early on, so that everyone can get their answers in before the show starts. It would also be fun to reward whoever is closest with a movie theatre gift card or some movie candy. You can find the ballot is available here.

2. Popcorn

Food is an obvious necessity at any good party, but why not work with the movie theme? While regular popcorn would definitely be fun to serve, I am obsessed with these cute cupcakes that look like popcorn, made using mini marshmallows and food coloring. The wrappers are also available online to print and wrap around the cupcakes if you want to get real fancy. I also think that serving popular movie theatre candies would be a fun and inexpensive idea.

3. Tuxedo Strawberries

I love making these tuxedo strawberries for parties, and I think they would be perfect for the Oscars! They are not only delicious, but also surprisingly easy to make. You can find the tutorial here.

4. Drinks

Nothing goes better with watching movies like movie theatre soda. But, since this is the most fancy night in Hollywood, champagne is also a must.  Personal bottles are the perfect size to drink, and if you have extra time on your hands, the DIY glitter bottles are so cute!

Another option is to make champagne Jello shots, which I can say from personal experience are so good! You can find the recipe here.

5. Oscars Bingo

Problem: sometimes sitting and watching an awards show for three (or more!) hours can get a little bit boring. Solution: This Oscars Bingo game is not only entertaining, but also funny. I’m pretty sure it won’t take long to reach Bingo on this one. Like the ballots, winners could just get bragging rights or a movie theatre gift card if you’re feeling generous.
