On March 18th, 650 delegates from over 40 high schools flocked to the Westin Copley Place to take part in EagleMUNC IV. EagleMUNC is a Model UN conference that gives high school students the opportunity to debate real world issues, while instilling necessary skills such as public speaking, communication, and critical thinking. The goal for each of the seventeen committees is to create a resolution for the particular issue that they are assigned. However, this is not as easy as it seems due to the constant crisis updates that can alter the course of debate at any moment.Â
Four years ago, having Boston College students host a conference was only a dream. Now, thanks to the incredible dedication of a committed leadership team and staffers, the conference is the biggest it has ever been, and it is gaining national attention. Best Delegate, one of the most respected resources for all things Model UN, called EagleMUNC “One of the Most Innovative Conference in Model UN” as a result of the prevalence of crisis committees and the unique idea of a 40-hour simulation, where delegates are expected to remain in character throughout the entire weekend.Â
This year, a Press Corp committee was added, so delegates acted as reporters for the conference. At the end of the weekend, they published a newspaper that detailed the highlights of the actions taken by each committee.Â
Even though EagleMUNC is over, that doesn’t mean the hard work stops. The entire staff is already gearing up for next year’s conference by choosing new leadership members and the topics for each committee. If you are interested in getting involved, reach out to usge@eaglemunc.org!Â
