It’s a well-known mantra, especially at BC where everyone always seems to put special effort into his or her appearance. Now, I am not opposed to dressing up every once in a while or at least looking decently put together (although I am personally a fan of the just-rolled-out-of-bed-but-it’s-ok-I’m-going-to-the-plex look), HOWEVER, I do not understand the rationale behind “dress well, test well.” In theory it seems like a good idea, but in reality I find it impractical. Why waste precious studying/sleeping hours on getting dressed and doing your hair? Is looking nice realistically going to improve your grade? Is there some sort of conversion scale by which I can gauge my outfits (nice outfit = 1 extra point, hair and makeup done = 5 points, full on business casual = up a letter grade)?
OK, end rant (sort of). I just think that dressing comfortably during finals should be more of a thing. It doesn’t mean you are lazy, it just means that you have other priorities to worry about. I would argue that the best way to dress for a final is in a way that makes you feel most comfortable and that is least high maintenance. Meaning you barely have to spend a millisecond worrying about whether you look good or not, or whether you are going to flash everyone when the wind blows etc., etc. And think about it, we are all students here; finals week is like a free pass, a no judgment zone. You can rock those comfy sweats without fear of persecution (except maybe from the BC Fashion Police, but do they really count?).
I’m not trying to tell you how to live your life. If you need to dress nicely to feel confident by all means go for it! (Even though I don’t understand you people). And just because you dress down doesn’t mean you have to look like a slob either. Just whatever you do, don’t be like this person:
