Five Ways to Wear a Scarf

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Everyone who knows me knows how much I wear scarves. My friends frequently ask me how many I actually own, so I counted recently… I have 38 at school with me (which is, shockingly, less than I thought). A cute new scarf is one thing I can never resist when I go shopping, and being abroad where the scarves were only 5 euro each was like being in heaven (I won’t admit how many I bought during my four months in Rome). In the winter especially, they’re a great way to add a splash of color to your outfit. But if you’re wearing scarves day after day, it’s nice to have different ways to wear them, so here are a few of my favorite ways to wear scarves!

Loose Wrap

This is probably the simplest way to wear a scarf, and definitely my go-to. It’s quick and easy, and always looks cute. If you need directions, check out this website. This also works if you use a square scarf: just fold it into a triangle, let the triangle part hang in front, and drape the two ends back around like in the loose wrap!

Slip Knot

The slip knot is another good way to wear your scarf, and it definitely does a better job of keeping you warm than the loose wrap does (if you’re looking for something to keep you cozy). Find directions for this style here!

Double Loop

Infinity scarves have become really popular, and the double loop is always cute! The good news is that you can even accomplish this look without an infinity scarf (as they do here)! Just safety pin the ends of your scarf together to make a big loop, and then follow these instructions!

“Four-in-Hand”

It took one of my high school friends a solid ten minutes to teach me this, but now that I’ve learned it, I love wearing my scarves this way. It’s really easy to tie your scarf this way once you know how, and I always get compliments from my friends who want to learn how to wear their scarves the same way. You can learn here!

Boho Loop Tie

This is probably the style I wear the least of these five, but I still like it for when I want to do something different! It works best with thinner scarves, though, so keep that in mind before trying to go for this look!
