On September 18th, Samantha Cooper, founder of the Trend Tribe jewelry company, visited Boston College to partner with Her Campus for an event that featured a talk on starting your own business and breaking out into the fashion world. Everyone who attended the event was able to enter a raffle to win a gorgeous Frye bag. There was also some serious shopping for Trend Tribe’s beautiful fall collection.
In Samantha’s talk, she spoke of her experience, in college and beyond, that allowed her to start Trend Tribe. She attended the business school at Babson College. While a freshman there, she decided to take control of her own career early on by beginning to design jewelry, which helped her get an internship at Barney’s in New York the following summer.Â
She encouraged the Collegiettes™who were present at the meeting to follow her motto, “Have real world experience to provide tangible results.” She also gave the advice that when you’re in the process of starting a new business, you should recruit people to help who are able to do things that aren’t necessarily your own strengths. That way, you have all bases of your business covered, even if you’re not able to cover all of them yourself.
Samantha even opened up the opportunity to BC students to get involved with Trend Tribe. She spoke about the fashion-focused campus ambassador program for college entrepreneurs, who earn the awesome title of “Trendsetters”. These trendsetters are responsible for hosting trunk shows on their campus for Trend Tribe’s stylish jewelry.
Aside from professional advice, Samantha also gave her expert opinion on the hot jewelry trends for fall. She said that chunky necklaces aren’t going anywhere. In fact, she was even wearing a multicolored one that looked like a work of art. But “dainty layering,” wearing several smaller necklaces at once, is the up-and-coming trend taking over the jewelry world. Whatever your preference, Trend Tribe has lots of options for staying on-trend this fall!
