Are we in an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air or Full House? Light wash jeans used to be a thing of the 90s, but like the choker necklaces (unfortunately), they’ve made a huge comeback. Don’t break out your 90s jeans from storage just yet; there are a few fashion rules that go with these “blast from the past” jeans. Note: mom jeans need not apply.
Speaking of mom jeans, fit matters the most with light wash jeans. Cropped, light wash jeans can go really wrong if the jeans are too low rising or too cropped. After all, light colors aren’t known for their “slimming” effects. Need a flattering pair? Try Madewell’s “Skinny Skinny Jeans: Knee-rip Edition.”
Need more “fitting” jeans? Boyfriend jeans have hit it big with the light wash trend. They’re the right amount of baggy and “rolled out of bed” cute. Try to find a distressed pair of boyfriend jeans; they give the baggy-ness a little more edge and less of a Goodwill vibe. J.Crew has a pretty great pair. And they’re on sale….
Avoid summertime sadness. In the fall, light wash jeans shouldn’t be paired with pastels or anything referencing the first half of the rainbow. Dark colors are a must when wearing these light wash jeans. SJP has probably the most perfect outfit for this rule.
OMG Shoes. This may just be personal opinion, but light wash jeans with dark ankle boots really channel your inner fashionista. Kate Moss would agree. The ankle boots are always a fall must, but they give the light wash jeans that extra, fall-appropriate boost.
Who says you can’t live in the past? These jeans, although an ode to our 90s days, are one of the best comebacks this fall. Lighten up and rock this fall trend.
