Moving over 800 miles away from anything I’ve known was definitely scary but it also taught me a lot about being independent, having more responsibilities, and learning to handle situations by myself. Here are some lessons I’ve learned so far:
Your once seemingly boring hometown now has so much more value, and going back evokes special memories like no other place can.
Money is something to be always conscious of and learning to appreciate its value is a hard lesson to learn.
Time management becomes not only a newly acquired skill, but a necessity to be successful in the fast-paced collegiate environment.
Solving your own problems is hard, but the humility gained from it is a valuable lesson.
No one will be there to take care of you when you’re sick, no one is there to cook for you, and cleaning is something that needs to be done often.
Balancing work and a social life is possible, but takes lots of practice.
Meeting new people can give you a different perspective, challenge you, but ultimately make you a better person.
Mom’s advice can never be replaced.
Dad’s words of wisdom finally start to make sense.
Friends truly become your family.
Growing up is not about having it all figured out, but rather understanding the little things, and knowing it’s perfectly okay to not have it all together.
