You may have seen her touring prospective BC students around campus, chowing down on a Tuscan Cheese Panini in Hillside, or being the ultimate Superfan at BC hockey games. When she’s not dreaming about being on Broadway or secretly indulging in her guilty pleasure, The Bachelor, Meyha heads to Bapst to hit the biology books. A world traveler, Appalachia and Arrupe volunteer, and lover of Friends and flannel, Meyha is truly one of a kind. So rock a flannel shirt and bring her a slice white chocolate raspberry cheesecake and you’re sure to capture this campus cutie’s heart!
Basics
Name: Meyha Swaroop
Hometown: Acton, MA
School/Year: A&S, 2013
Major: Biology major with an International Studies minor
BC Life
Activities/Clubs: Appalachia, Arrupe, Student Admissions Program, and South Asian Students Association
Best Class: Best? Hmm, I’d probably have to say two. Freshman year I took Courage to Know and last year I took Human Physiology, which was so cool. We got to play with all of this medical equipment and for one lab we had to wear a super tight corset and run on a treadmill for three minutes to see what it’s like to have a restrictive lung disorder. It was so hard!
Worst Class: Organic Chemistry… both semesters. I think that’s pretty self-explanatory.
Bapst or O’Neill: Bapst. Well, O’Neill during the day and Bapst at night, but I’m more of a night studier so I usually go to Bapst. It’s just more exciting… where else but Bapst do BC students go streaking during finals week?
Favorite Place to Eat: Probably Hillside. I pretty much custom make my sandwiches there since I’m a vegetarian, but you can’t beat the Tuscan Cheese Panini.
Something to look forward to this year: I can’t wait to go abroad next semester to Glasgow, Scotland!
Favorite BC Sport: Definitely hockey. I think the games are way more exciting than the football games and, plus, the team is better.
Favorite Hangout on Campus: On a really nice day, any sort of green space. You know the lawn outside Higgins by the St. Ignatius statue? That’s a great place to go just to lie out and hang with friends.
Advice to Freshman: Hm, what would I have to wanted to know as a Freshman? I think I would say to really get to know your professors. I know everyone says it, but it’s so true. Getting to know that one professor can set you ahead and help you find your place at BC.
Fun Facts
Embarrassing moment: At BC? Well freshman year I lived on Upper and it rained a ton and the stairs would always get really slippery. One rainy day I decided to wear flip flops to walk to class (I know, I’ve lived in Massachusetts all my life and yet I never had rain boots). I tripped and fell down the entire flight of stairs… like all the way down on my butt and everyone saw. It hurt to sit down for the rest of the week.
Unique Trait: I’m actually obsessed with flannel shirts. I have about nine of them here at BC and more at home.
Favorite Movie: It depends what mood I’m in. I know it’s totally cliché but I love Titanic. It makes me cry every time. Also Love Actually – I think I watch it about eight times each Christmas.
Favorite TV Show: Friends. It’s a show that never gets old! I laugh every time I watch it.
Dream job: Ok, if I had all the abilities I’d totally want to be on Broadway…. but I can’t sing so that’s never going to happen. More realistically? I want to be a pediatrician.
Favorite Food: White chocolate raspberry cheesecake. Yum.
Secret Talent: I can actually say the alphabet really fast backwards.
Guilty Pleasure: Oooh, probably watching The Bachelor or The Bachelorette. I know, they’re so stupid right?! I hate the show, but watch it all the time… it’s addicting.
Biggest Pet Peeve: When people text or IM and say “LOL”. I can’t stand it- just say “haha”! Sometimes I don’t even respond to people when they say it.
Love Life
Single: Yes.
Celeb Crush: Patrick Dempsey. Hands down.
Turn Ons: Someone with a sense of humor- they also have to be able to laugh at me and my weird sense of humor.
Turn offs: Okay, this is really gross, but I can’t stand guys with dirty fingernails. Ew.
Ideal date: Honestly, something totally low key and not fancy. Like going to dinner at a cozy restaurant, talking, and then maybe walking around Boston after. It’s such a pretty city at night.
Dealbreakers? You have to be able to pull off flannel!
