My Olympian BFFs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Like every person around the world this summer, I remained chained to my television from July 27th- August 12th.  I have always been an Olympics junkie and the London Olympics proved no differently.  I laughed, I cried, and naturally, I dreamed of being friends with these athletic superheroes, tomfoolery abounding as we frolicked around the Olympic Village in between my various medal ceremonies.  Which girls made my core crew? Read on to find out.

4. Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May Treanor:  This fierce duo killed it in London, winning their third straight gold medal in women’s beach volleyball.  Not only did they win their third gold, but they have also won every match they’ve ever played in the Summer Games.  Clearly, they are athletic goddesses, but how much fun do they look like they’re having out there?  Diving all over the place in their bikinis, high fiving each other every five seconds- I want to join this party!

Another day, another gold medal.

3. Alex Morgan:  One of the breakout stars from the gold-medal winning women’s soccer team, Alex made her Olympic debut in a big way this summer.  Alex’s game-winning goal in double overtime against Canada in the semi-finals brought me to complete hysteria.  Not to mention, she’s pretty, cute, and funny. Be my friend please!

2. Missy Franklin:  The 17-year-old star of the U.S. swimming team more than lived up to the hype that surrounded her all summer.  Taking home five medals in total, Missy surely has many more Olympics ahead of her.  Down-to-earth and funny, I’m hoping to befriend Missy in time for her to take me to Rio with her in 2016.

On Wednesdays, we wear pink.

1. The Fab Five:  The London 2012 sweethearts, the U.S. women’s gymnastics’ team took the gold in the team event…and also in my heart (you are simply lying if you didn’t cry when they stood on the podium and received their gold medals).  I couldn’t just pick one of them, although McKayla Maroney’s insane vaulting skills, sass, and love of taking selfies sealed the deal for me.
