When my older brother told me college would fly by, I didn’t really believe him. The first months of freshman year seemed to last forever. Everything was new and exciting. Each day I learned more and more about BC and the community around it.
Fast forward 4 years and here we are – a little less than a month before graduation. When senior year started, my friends and I knew we wanted to create a senior bucket list. It would push us to do all the things we may have missed out on during the past four years here at BC. Some of the goals were small and easily accomplished – attend a BC basketball game together. Others took a little courage – jump off the high dive at the pool.
Why should you create a senior bucket list? Juniors, I’m looking at you. You should create one because in the frenzy of senior year, you may forget little things you wanted to do before you leave Boston. In between interviewing for jobs and planning what to wear to Commencement Ball, my friends and I made sure we added something to the list we could all do as a group. While our list isn’t completed yet, it’s already given us so many great memories.
Here are some memorable moments we’ve checked off:
Go Sledding Down the Hill Next to Iggy
When will I ever again be able to go up the hill next to my beloved Iggy in the middle of the night and sled down it. Answer: Never. If I did after graduation, that would just be weird. My friends and I did this the first night of snowmageddon. It was long before the allure of the snow wore off. It was a fun night where my friends and I acted like kids and played in the snow. Definitely a great memory of mine.
Celebrate a Sporting Event at Fenway
While I thought this would be a Red Sox game, it ended up being for the Super Bowl. Being in Boston when the Patriots won the Super Bowl was definitely something I’ll remember long after I leave BC
Go to the Pinstripe Bowl
Being a BC student from New York, it seemed sacrilegious not to go to the Pinstripe Bowl. I hadn’t originally planned on attending, but decided to go with my family. It was a great time, not only because I got to see my friends, but also my brother and his friends who were seniors at BC when I was a freshmen. It seemed like my college tailgate career had come full circle.
Visit the Wang Theatre
I’m glad I put this on my senior bucket list. My boyfriend surprised me with tickets to the Nutcracker knowing I wanted to visit the Wang Theatre before I graduated and we both love Christmas. It was a beautiful venue and I’m glad I took the time to go to it.
Get Brunch by the Waterfront
What started out as us missing a football game because we woke up too late ended up being one of my most memorable days in Boston. I headed to Whiskey Priest to have brunch on their outside deck with my friends. However, by an unbelievable turn of events, we ended up on Bud Light’s Up for Whatever party bus. We got to go to different bars all around Boston for free and ended the day in a luxury suite at Fenway for a Tom Petty concert! Moral of the story: follow your bucket list.
Party, just because
Senior year is a year to celebrate. You’ve made it through years of hard work, a lot of all-nighters, and countless hours of homework. You deserve to celebrate. Just don’t celebrate too hard to the point where you won’t be celebrating graduation.
Most importantly, I loved being able to do this things with the girls that have become my best friends over the past four years. When we sat down in September to make our Senior Bucket List, I didn’t think it was important. But, as I look back on the pictures of all the things we’ve checked off the list, I’m so happy we made it.
