No Football Game? No Problem: How to Spend Your Weekends Outside of the Stadium

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s freshmen year and you are pumped about BC football.  But what do you do when Friday comes and you realize you don’t have any plans for the weekend?  Even though fall at BC primarily means football season, here are some other fun weekend activities to do when there is no home game.

1. Throw your own football viewing party:
Call up your new friends for everyone to go down to the basement of Fitzaga to watch the away game on the flat screen TV.  Order Roggies or Wingz to fill up on tailgating foods without even leaving the lounge. Go Eagles!

2. Show your BC ID and get FREE entry:
During football season especially, it is hard to make a trip to travel into Boston.  However, free entries into various museums with your BC ID may create an incentive to go.  Show your ID card at the door of the Museum of Fine Arts, Institute of Contemporary Art, or the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and you’ll get in for free!   You can also request free tickets to the Museum of Science and New England Aquarium via Robsham’s online ticketing service (2 tickets per BC ID/ semester).   For more museums, go to: http://www.bc.edu/content/bc/offices/vpsa/Museum_Memberships.html.

3. Have a BBQ:
If you live in the Mods or off campus, chances are you use the grill on game days.   Don’t put away the grilling tools just yet.  Throw an outdoor BBQ while we try to hold on to as much shorts-wearing weather as we can. Make it themed if you want to add a little flair.

4. Enjoy fun fall festivities:
The leaves are changing colors and pumpkin spices lattes are finally arriving at Starbucks.   It’s time for fun fall festivities!  This could mean anything from picking a pumpkin to making apple pies to raking up a pile of leaves and jumping in it.   Get some friends together and enjoy fall, which is, in my opinion, one of the prettiest times of the year at BC.

5. Relax:
Finally a day to sleep in.

These are just a few activities to explore over the next few weekends as we all start to experience the lull of activity due to the lack of tailgating and football games.   Gather some new and old friends and enjoy your fall weekends!
