An Open Letter to Someone Who Needs a Pep Talk

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Dear stressed/overwhelmed/tired/*anything else* student,

It seems as if there’s way too much going on recently; so much school, so many things to worry about, and a lot of everything just adding up. There have been times when all I want is a vacation or just to go home and not be stressed for a bit. If you’re feeling this way, know that you’re definitely not alone! With Thanksgiving so close (yet so far), we are all kind of gearing up for the holiday spirit while dealing with pretty demanding work loads that don’t seem to go away. With all of this going on, I’ve noticed that a lot of people can get into a funk of stress and can become absolutely exhausted in every way possible.  So here’s to everyone who needs a little pep talk to get them through the next few weeks (it’s the home stretch!).

It has reached the middle, but not so middle, but also not the end of the semester, and you are exhausted beyond words. Maybe you’re like me and have gotten sick already or maybe you had a bunch of exams that just so happened to get lumped together in the same week (I had 5 mid terms in one week). But sometimes, everything adds up and you feel like your health, sanity, and well-being are spiraling downwards. Believe me, we have all been there and it happens to the best of us.

Know that your worth and how you view yourself is never defined by others or what they say. Sometimes, people say things that get to you and it’s just not true and most definitely not worth your time getting upset over. It is always 100% ok to admit that you’ve been having a rough time for whatever reason (because we are all human and we all feel that way sometimes).  Also, remember that if you need to take a little break for yourself to talk to someone or rest your eyes from reading all those textbooks, you definitely should. Listen to your body and your gut; try to get some good sleep and study breaks when you can.

If schoolwork is building up to the extreme, know that we are all here for an education and it will happen to all of us at one point. It really does feel like work will never end, but keep powering through because you are capable and will get through even the toughest of assignments. Never be afraid to ask for help or to take a break to keep your levelheadedness.

Best of luck to you all; I know you can do it!
