It is 8:50 a.m.
There are only ten minutes to get to your 9 a.m. class.
So what do you do? You run to the lobby of Maloney avoiding the scenic hike at BC, also known as the Million Dollar Stairs, or you take the stairs.
Most likely, you are tired and not in the mood to walk up hundreds of steps so you go to Maloney in hopes of making it to class on time without realizing how out of shape you are. Luckily, everyone is going to the fourth floor so the elevator sort of runs like a shuttle. Very few people actually know what is on each floor of Maloney, and that’s ok because it takes you where you need to go. One day, you will actually explore Maloney, right?
Taken in the midst of the crowd trying to get to my 9 a.m. class.
What would we do without you Maloney elevators?
1. Walk up the Million Dollar Stairs?
Good one!
2. Take the Parking Garage Elevator
Hmm possibly, but Hillside is right there…and…ugh. To be honest, those elevators are a bit sketchy. But, there is no walking up stairs at all, which is nice.
3. No Shortcut to O’Neill
When you walk out the doors of Maloney 4, you see O’Neill 1 just waiting for you to print the paper you finished an hour ago and if you’re feeling extra lazy, you can take the elevator from the first floor to the third floor of O’Neill.
4. Not be overcrowded
Which is worse, being crowded for two minutes in an elevator or walking up the stairs crowd free? Your pick.
5. Not Catch selfish people in the act
We are all in this together, whether you like it or not. Those who open the back of the first elevator on Maloney 1 are the worst type of people. Don’t you hate when you realize the elevator on the far left says it is on the 1st floor, yet the door doesn’t open because some sneaky soul thought that they could get away will try to cheat the system and getting on the elevator without the crowd? Sometimes the crowd enters in the back with the sneaky soul…so were they really sneaky? Nah.
Overall, the Maloney elevators are a necessity. Many of us on Lower would not get to class on time, or get to class at all just thinking about walking up so many steps.
Shout out to BC for being on a hill where every day is leg day!
