Say My Name…Blue Ivy Carter has Arrived!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

She’s finally here!  Blue Ivy Carter, or better known as Destiny’s long awaited child, has finally arrived!  This bootylicious baby was born well into the night on January 7, 2012, where Beyonce and Jay-Z topped this pregnancy off in style.  She checked in under the not-so-glamorous alias, Ingrid Jackson, and rented out the whole wing of the Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan to make sure paparazzi was not a problem for America’s power couple that night.

The Bey-be excitement began when Beyonce unbuttoned her purple sequined jacket and rubbed her belly at the MTV VMAs after putting on a stunning performance of “Love on Top.”  Ever since that moment, the hype has been unbearable waiting for this child to be born.  Will this child have a weird celebrity child’s name, like Apple?  Will she be rapping before she can walk?

But, now everyone is wondering, what is the whole story behind the name: Blue and Ivy?  It sure is, what can I call it…original.  There is meaning behind the name though.  “Blue” is the baby daddy’s favorite color, as we can tell by his album titles, The Blueprint.  “Ivy” is not because Beyonce wants her daughter to play Serena Van der Woodsen’s fake cousin on Gossip Girl.  No, this couple loves the number 4, which is IV in roman numerals.  Beyonce was born on September 4, and America’s favorite musical couple wed on April 4, 2008.  It only makes sense that this Bey-Z’s name represents parts of the greatness that made her.  All the haters tweeting #namesbetterthanivyblue should realize this baby is going to be a pop culture icon as the new addition of America’s “royal” family.

One thing is for sure, this baby is sure to be diva-licious.  If Baby Blue is as talented, classy, and fierce as her mother, Jay-Z better watch his throne.

Welcome to the world, Baby Blue Ivy!
