I remember it like it was yesterday. The text read, “Boston College will be closed due to inclement weather”, and we immediately threw up our hands and screamed as loudly as possible. A snowday, we thought, what could be better than that?
All day, we drank hot chocolate, put off our responsibilities, played in the snow, drank a glass of wine or two…and I never changed out of sweatpants the entire day.
But then, that evening… it happened again… the ping of the text message. Another snow day!
We could do everything from the previous snow day!!… Again!
But then before I knew it, I was being bombarded with emails. Online lecture? Discussion post? Reading?! Don’t these professors know it’s a snow day?!
It only got worse from there, people. Snowday #3 really became “Catch Up on all the Homework I Didn’t Do These Past Two Snowdays” Day.
But I spoke too soon because then it was snowday #4. Did I mention there were more assignments, more readings, more online lectures, and more mass chaos?
By snowday #4, the professors were complaining, the students were partying, the parents were worrying, and Father Leahy was stressing.
I have to admit it: I officially have a love-hate relationships with snowdays.
I’m over having snowpiles as tall as me, living in my Bean boots, trying to motivate myself to do endless homework on my “off-day”, and being stuck in my dorm room all day long.
While some students continue to celebrate the arrival of more snow and (possibly) more snow days, I will be dreaming about…
