While SoWa may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of retail in the city, it’s a fun and unique place that everyone should check out ASAP! Located in South Boston and extending from Mass Ave to Herald Street, there are countless galleries, shops, food and vendors that are nothing short of amazing. And it’s free to get in!
What is it?
“Located at the intersection of creativity and community,” SoWa provides a one of a kind shopping experience (think Faneuil Hall but outside, more hipster, and ten times better). Filled with countless tents and tables of hand-made items, you can buy anything from jewelry to tapestries to home goods. In addition to the open market portion, SoWa includes a vintage market as well as a neighboring farmer’s market.
What’s to eat?
Brace yourself…While there are many sit down restaurants nearby, there is something much more enticing. On Sundays located at 560 Harrison Ave (just a few steps away from the market), 20 of Boston’s most iconic food trucks line up. Whether you are craving a taco, a gourmet grilled cheese, an ice cream sandwich, or all of the above; there is a food truck ready to satisfy your appetite.
When is it?
SoWa is open every weekend from May 1 to October from 10am to 4pm (this does not include Fridays). That’s plenty of time to get out and enjoy this amazing atmosphere!
So starting in May, choose a day, grab some friends, head out to SoWa, and don’t be surprised when it becomes one of your favorite places in Boston!
