The Struggles of Traveling for Thanksgiving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Some of us have to fly home for Thanksgiving and it definitely is pretty exhausting. On top of finishing up assignments before break, we also have to keep in mind the little things associated with traveling back home.

1. To check a back or no? The ultimate struggle: is it worth my time? Is my bag too heavy? Why did I pack that extra pair of shoes??

2. When do I leave for the airport? Will there be the holiday rush or will I be sitting around with candy and a magazine for long?? Will the rain/fog/mist delay my flight?

3. Security will forever make me slightly nervous. I ALWAYS get my hair patted down if I wear a bun. I can sense the sound of the beeping while you hold your arms up in the air for 3 seconds in the TSA scanners… I also always forget to empty my water bottle so I chug it in line.

4. I know this is trivial but there is something really nice about having enough overhead storage on the plane (hey, sometimes my backpack doesn’t fit). Also, it’s nice when I can do all this maneuvering without falling over or being unable to reach the bins.

5. TURBULENCE; nothing irks me more than fearing for my life from the plane suddenly dropping and feeling like we are shaking in the air.

Even though we go through all this, it’s all worth it in the end because we get to go home. Happy Thanksgiving y’all!
