The start of a new school year will inevitably bring excitement with new classes and friendships reunited, football games, and fall leaves, but before breaking out the sweaters and Bean boots, I wanted to give BC one final opportunity to reminisce over the days of tan lines and summer sunsets. BC draws a wide variety of students from all across the country. Being from Minneapolis, I may be biased in thinking Minnesota has the best summers (after all, we need something to redeem ourselves from frigid winters), but summer experiences can all have their unique perks depending on your geographical location. Take a look at what these girls from all across the country had to say about their summer experience. It may spark some ideas for your next summer vacay…
California – Sophie Payne
1. Where are you from/where did you spend your summer?
I’m from Sonoma, California. I spent my summer in California for the most part, but vacationed in Florida, Minnesota, and Israel.
2. What did a typical day look like for you?
A typical day at home would be waking up, going to yoga, and then hanging out with friends. Daily activities include, but are not limited to, hiking, swimming, going to the beach, going to San Francisco, etc.
3. What was your favorite part of summer?
Definitely Outside Lands, a music festival in Gold Gate Park at the end of the summer! Good music, yummy food, and all my friends!
4. If you could choose any other place in the U.S. to spend your summer where would it be?
I would love to live in Spain for the summer. I was born there and I want to go back and continue to cultivate my connection with the country and the language.
5. If a BC friend were to visit you for a day, where would you take them?
I would probably take them into San Francisco since there is so much going on there! Specifically, I would take her to the mission since it’s my favorite area for food, shopping, and sight seeing!
Martha’s Vineyard – Maddie Samaha
1. Where are you from/where did you spend your summer?
I’m from Bow, New Hampshire and I spent my summer on Martha’s Vineyard.
2. What did a typical day look like for you?
A typical day involved waking up, stopping by the local coffee shop and then going to work for the day, and then ended with spending a night out with friends and coworkers. On days off, the whole day would be spent at the beach, floating on Katama Bay or kayaking and fishing.
3. What was your favorite part of summer?
My favorite part of summer was being able to work with so many people I liked, and live in a place that people from all over the world visit. Working a fun job, going to the beach all day, and going out all night with great people never gets old.
4. If you could choose any other place in the U.S. to spend your summer where would it be?
I would probably choose either California or New York City. I think a city summer is definitely something worth experiencing.
5. If a BC friend were to visit you for a day, where would you take them?
If a BC friend were to visit me, I would take them to Among the Flowers for breakfast, Norton Point for the day, grab some dinner at Atria or Port Hunter and then go to downtown Edgartown and Oak Bluffs later that night.
Minnesota – Abby Dryer
1. Where are you from/where did you spend your summer?
I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota.

3. What was your favorite part of summer?
Favorite part of summer was the days on the lake – boating and laying out and just being lazy, followed by the daily pontoon cruise with my parents and the neighbor families.
4. If you could choose any other place in the U.S. to spend your summer where would it be?
Definitely Nantucket because it is the closest in resemblance to Minnesota lakes, but it’s closest to the ocean!
5. If a BC friend were to visit you for a day, where would you take them?
If someone came to visit I would first take them to Core Power yoga to start off the day. Then I would bring them to brunch at Interlachen Country Club. Then I would take my friend to Luke Musech and go out on the boat and we would spend the day socializing and enjoying the great Minnesota weather! Finally, we would get ice cream at Adele’s. Nothing beats a MN summer.
Florida – Lauren Filburn

I’m from Orlando, Florida. I spent most of my summer on vacation with my family and visiting friends from school. I also visited Amsterdam, Berlin, and Prague with my family towards the end of the summer.

My favorite part of summer was being so close to the beach! I loved being able to wake up in the morning and deciding to have a spontaneous beach day with my friends.

I’m from Westchester, New York and I spent a lot of my summer in Southampton, New York on Long Island.
2. What did a typical day look like for you?
When I wasn’t working as a waitress at a local shore club, I would spend time at the gorgeous beaches of Southampton.
3. What was your favorite part of summer?
My favorite part of summer is being on my uncle’s boat, which we take into the Shinnecock Bay on Long Island and go tubing and fishing!
4. If you could choose any other place in the U.S. to spend your summer where would it be?
I would love to spend some time (particularly for the Fourth of July!!) in Minnesota.
5. If a BC friend were to visit you for a day, where would you take them?
I would definitely have to take a friend to the beach and into Southampton village, which has the best shopping and restaurants.
So when the snow and chills set in upon us, dream of warmer weather in these spots or see how your own hometown matches up to the rest. I’ve found the greatest advantage to having friends spread across the country is always having an excuse to visit!
