The Game

Wow. Super Bowl XLIX gave viewers quite an incredible ride, particularly in the 4th quarter. While the New England Patriots may have been the first to put points on the board, they were trailing the Seattle Seahawks heading into the 4th quarter 24-14. The Patriots fought back and with just over two minutes left in the game, the Patriots went up 28-24 after their second touchdown of the quarter. Then things got crazy. Seattle drove down the field making their way inside the red zone with a Hail Mary pass from Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse. The catch was nothing short of shocking as the ball bounced off Kearse before he was finally able to grab ahold of it. Just when it looked as if a Seattle touchdown was a sure thing, Patriots rookie, Malcolm Butler intercepted Wilsons pass at the goal line. To finish up the two minutes of rollercoaster emotions for fans and players alike, a fight broke out with 18 seconds left, Tom Brady took a knee, Bill Belichick got doused with Gatorade, and the Patriots emerged champions of Super Bowl XLIX.

Halftime

After riding in on a mechanical lion singing her hit song Roar, Katy Perry continued with a medley of hits and performed with Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott. Unlike some past performers, Perry stuck with her hit songs and concluded her performance rising high above the stage on a shooting star singing Firework. With her entertaining and energetic set, Katy Perry definitely brought her A game to the performance.

Commercials

The Super Bowl may be as popular for its commercials as it is for the game itself, which is why every year viewers wait in anticipation to see what ad agencies have put together for some of the most watched commercials of the year. Some were good, some were bad, and some were just plain depressing (I’m looking at you Nationwide). The Doritos plane ad was pretty funny and Budweiser brought the cute factor with their missing dog ad. However, many commercials this year took a more serious note trying to reach viewers with a larger message. This tactic was used by Always for their #likeagirl campaign and the domestic violence PSA put out by No More. Whether you liked the commercials or not, be prepared to hear about them for at least the next week.
