Themed Parties: When Going Out Becomes Even More Fun!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

Themed parties: there’s no denying we love any excuse to dress up.  But have you ever been to a creatively themed party and said to yourself, “Wow, I wish I had thought of this!”?

Some of the best party ideas out there are so simple that you’ll wonder why you never thought of hosting one before.  Take the middle of April, when the weather starts to improve, and the students come out of hibernation.  This is the perfect occasion to host a festive Easter Beer Hunting Party.  Just buy a few thirties, hide them around the outside of the house, and let the festivities begin.  And for those of you who aren’t twenty-one, try this the classic way with candy or small knick-knacks hidden inside plastic Easter eggs.  It’s just as fun, and it won’t leave you hungover.

Being a student at a notoriously preppy school means there is no way you can graduate without having attended a Tea-Partay at least once.  If you haven’t seen the YouTube video this references, then you’re severely missing out my friends.  This means throwing on your brightest polo (collar popped) and a tennis skirt and partying like you live in the Hamptons.  The best part is how easy it is to find the necessary clothes and accessories, as well as the people willing to attend such an event.  Trust me; it’s the easiest one on this list to plan.

Another classic is the Stoplight Party.  Party-goers wear different colored clothes to represent whether or not they are in a relationship.  Red means “taken,” yellow means “it’s complicated,” and green means “available.”  This makes it a lot easier when you’re standing there wondering if the cute guy across the party is actually dating that blonde girl in his ecology class.  If he’s wearing green, then go for it.  If he’s wearing red… I mean you could still go for it…

If you’re looking for something creative and easy, a Letter Party is for you.  Simply pick a letter of the alphabet for the costumes to be based off of, and let the imagination fly!  At a recent “J” Party, for example, I saw a Jedi, Julius Caesar, and Jesus.  It’s the perfect opportunity to go crazy with inspiration.

Here are a few others for your party enjoyment:

  • Walk of Shame Party:  Dress up as if it’s 7am on your walk back to campus.  Except this time, you can say it’s on purpose!
  • Graffiti Party:  Highlighters + white shirts + blacklights = awesome.  It’s even funnier when you wait to turn the blacklights on until the end, and then see what people wrote.
  • Toga Party:  Self-explanatory.  It’s not college without one.
