There’s no better place to travel to than the land Down Under! From the incredible coral reefs and warm weather, to the beautiful outback and adorable koalas, and of course the amazing city markets and nightlife, there is always so much to see and do, and every city is completely different. While there was not a single place I went that I didn’t love in Australia, here’s just a few of my most favorite destinations to visit there and the best things to do or see during your trip.

1. Melbourne

Since I spent a semester abroad studying in Melbourne, this beautiful city has a special place in my heart. There’s so much to do and see here, including some of the best rooftop bars, incredible shopping, the famous Queen Victoria markets, sporting events, and even a pink lake.

2. Sydney

This well known metropolitan area has beautiful sites to see such as the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, as well as incredible restaurants, zoos, famous Bondi Beach, and the picturesque Blue Mountains National Park just 2 hours away via train.

3. Whitsunday Islands

While many people have never heard of these small tropical islands off the central eastern coast of Australia, the stunning views are like out of a magazine. Tons of sailing, snorkeling, and kayaking trips are available as well as ferries between the islands to visit the beaches, especially my favorite- Whitehaven Beach (with 98% pure silica white sand and crystal clear turquoise water).

4. Byron Bay

Recently growing in popularity, Byron Bay is a small, beachy town located in New South Wales just south of Gold Coast. There are dozens of trendy boutiques and restaurants, as well as great beaches, access to nearby mountains for hiking and waterfalls, and of course the photo-worthy Byron Bay Lighthouse.

5. Great Barrier Reef (Cairns)

A sight I believe everyone should see at some point in their lives, the Great Barrier Reef is accessible via boat tours where you can snorkel or scuba dive and see the incredible coral, fish, and other aquatic life that is hard to find anywhere else. The closest city is Cairns, a quaint town with lots of touristy stores and restaurants, as well as museums and parks to visit.

So if you’re looking for a fun new place to getaway, take advantage of all that ‘Straya has to offer! From the adorable animals, to the great weather and awesome people, you might just fall in love with it as much as I did!
