New Years has come and gone, and like many other people I made the resolution to try and work out more. Since arriving back to BC, the daunting task of walking to the Plex from Upper has been a minor set back on my goal.  However, I have discovered two phenomenal fitness classes that are definitely worth the trek.

Zumba with Meg

Monday 7:45 pm and Thursday 7:00 pm

To put it simply, Meg is my spirit animal. She is the most upbeat and motivating instructor that I have ever had. Whether you are an experienced dancer or have no rhythm whatsoever, Meg’s Zumba class will be the highlight of your day. Meg plays popular and fun music, and makes her moves simple and easy to follow.  I always find myself singing along while I attempt to master each dance move Meg throws my way. This class is so enjoyable and does not have the stuffy fitness class environment. If you are someone who gets easily bored when working out, I highly recommend trying a Zumba class. Meg’s class is a great workout and an even better time.

Spin with Consuelo

Sunday 6:00 pm, Tuesday 5:15 pm, and Wednesday 6:15 pm

I had never fully experienced a spin class until I attended one taught by Consuelo. Consuelo provides a strenuous but fantastic workout. I leave the class absolutely exhausted and soaked in sweat, but it is definitely worth it.  Consuelo pumps you up while she kicks your butt. You do not need to be an experienced spinner to attend this class, but I do recommend getting a feel for the bike elsewhere before Consuelo asks you to ride to the beat of the music. You will honestly leave the class feeling better about yourself both physically and emotionally. Consuelo’s class is such in high demand you must call and reserve a bike at least 24 hours in advance.

In addition to the two I mentioned, there are so many other great fitness classes offered at the Plex (booty barre, yoga, BC-X etc.). There are also many amazing instructors who have classes that I have not even tried yet. If you are intimidated by fitness equipment and weights, or if you just cannot stand the smell of the workout area, grab your friends and try a fitness class instead.
