We all know the popular ones: English, History or possibly a foreign language, but there are many BC minors that people don’t know about and they definitely deserve some attention.
Medical Humanities
Interested in the medical field but not cut out to be pre-med? This minor offers a “humanistic and cultural study of illness, health, health care, and the body.” By encompassing course across several disciples including both social and natural sciences this minor would be a great fit for a variety of students with applications in law, public health and journalism.

Women’s and Gender Studies
The topic of women’s equality is a hot topic today from Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In to Emma Watson and the UN working on the #HeforShe campaign. If you are interested in women’s past and present place in society, this may be the major for you. According to the description, this “program analyzes the similarities and differences among women as a result of such factors as race, class religion, and sexuality.” While I have not taken courses in this area of study, I imagine that our current society is a great context for discussion and exploration of this topic.

Psychoanalytic Studies
Paging Dr. Freud. This interesting minor focuses on “the origins, development and applications of psychoanalytic theory.” The minor presents a cross-disciplinary approach to examining and understanding the impact of psychoanalysis. If you pursue this minor, just be careful not too analyze your friends too closely. They may not appreciate your observations.
