It’s coming. Slowly but surely, it’s making its way here. Snow. If I have learned anything from being in Boston last year, it’s that these four inches on the ground now are only the beginning. Soon our Sorrels and Bean Boots won’t even be able to carry us through the icy, slushy terrain.
This poses a problem for some active individuals at BC. The mere thought of an expedition through the snow may dissuade many people from hitting the Plex this winter. To the brave souls who put on their big girl pants and keep the treadmills and ellipticals busy, I salute you. Staying motivated to workout when there are mounds of snow in your way can be tough.
But do not fear! Here are 6 ways to avoid the trek to the Plex:
1. Grab your phone. Call an Uber. Go to a nearby studio and take a class.
We are so lucky to live in the Boston area because there are many great resources available to us. Why not take advantage? If you are looking for a cardio workout to get energized, go to SoulCycle. If you are looking to tone your legs and core, take a class at Pure Barre or Modern Barre.
2. Channel your inner 80’s girl and use a workout video.
In other words, bring the class right to your room. I can assure you that YouTube has more to offer than Justin Bieber music videos. Amanda Russell and BeFit are two of many great fitness channels to follow. Both provide videos of various lengths with options for cardio and strength training.
3. Follow the leader.
When all else fails, Instagram always has an answer. Check out @bagsandbunnies, @annavictoria, and @achieving_balance for videos of exercises that you can do right in your room.
4. Sweat with Kayla.
Download fitness guru Kayla Itsines’s app “Sweat with Kayla” for exercises designed for people without access to a gym, or in our case, for girls trapped inside their dorms.
5. Improvise.
Do a set of planks, jumping jacks, squats, or all three!
Heading to the Plex in the snow and winter can be a nightmare, but these ways can help you survive the winter workout blues!
