What to Watch to Get You Through January

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

It’s time to be honest with ourselves, people. January is a terrible, terrible month. Even if you’re a happy, busy person without Seasonal Affective Disorder, a little relaxing entertainment never hurt. Here are some options for a mid-winter boredom remedy.

Moone Boy

Featuring the Bridesmaids cop Chris O’Dowd as the imaginary friend of a twelve-year old boy, this Irish show is hilarious.  Moone Boy follows the ordinary, hilarious life of Martin Moone as he trudges through school and copes with his older sisters.

Where to watch: Hulu

Perfect if: you want something funny and cute to watch while doing homework or being productive.

Time commitment: Six 30-minute episodes (aka an afternoon or two nights)

SORTED food

You’re an adult, and you need to learn how to cook. Pasta and canned sauce isn’t going to cut it every night, and neither is packaged food or takeout. This YouTube channel features four friends who show you how to cook simple, delicious dishes. The bonus? These four friends are super-cute British boys. Trust.

Where to watch: YouTube

Perfect if: you can’t cook or you like British accents.

Time Commitment: One video or a hundred? Your pick.

Pramface

After a hapless post-exam hookup, Laura and Jamie find themselves expecting a baby. While the first episode is a little clumsy in introducing all of the characters, the characters feel authentic and the storyline is convincing.

Where to watch: Hulu

Perfect if: you’ve ever felt socially awkward, you like watching funny things, and need something to distract you.

Time commitment: Thirteen 30-minute episodes (a week of study breaks)

Essie Button or Vivianna Does Makeup

You can have a lot of different opinions about makeup, but I won’t discuss those here. Instead, you could watch these ‘beauty gurus’ to learn about new products and ideas. These ladies are knowledgeable about the products they use and recommend. Their soothing voices make their videos ideal for watch while doing homework or other tasks. Watching these might also remind you to take the time to relax and pamper yourself.

Where to watch: YouTube

Perfect if: You want something easy and interesting to watch.

Time commitment: As many as you want

Julia Sweeney: It’s time for “The Talk”

This TED talk is fantastic. Watch it now.

Where to watch: http://www.ted.com/talks/julia_sweeney_has_the_talk.html

Perfect if: Dude, just watch it. It’s great.

Time commitment: Five minutes!
