World: Violence in Ukraine
Crisis in Ukraine continued this week as ousted president Viktor Yanukovych fled the country. In case you haven’t been following these issues, Ukrainians tend to be split pro-Europe or pro-Russia as far as alliances go, and the tensions have mounted for various political and economic reasons. Armed Crimean forces showed up outside of an airport this morning, which is really freaking people out. What will happen remains to be seen, though right now Ukrainian Parliament is essentially running the government in wake of the President’s departure.
U.S.: Big Storm Worries Californians
Southern California is normally known for mild weather and nice temperatures, but this week it has been under attack by a brutal snow and rainstorm. About 1,000 homes in the area have been evacuated thus far, and ten miles of the Pacific Coast Highway have been temporarily closed. 24,000 are currently without power.
Entertainment: Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher Engaged
Kelso and Jackie are headed for the altar…in real life! The couple announced their engagement last Thursday after Kunis was shown wearing a gorgeous new ring! Kunis and Kutcher have reportedly been together since 2012. Kutcher divorced ex-wife Demi Moore in 2011.
Tech: Creator of “Helvetica” Font Passes Away
We’ve all used the Helvetica font at some point during our lives. This popular font was created by Mike Parker and is currently used by many online newspapers and magazines, among other websites. It is also the font used on tax forms and in the New York Subway. Parker died at 84.
