NBA Bans Clippers’ Owner for Life Following Racist Comments
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling, was banned from the NBA for life following the release of recordings on which Sterling made racist comments. This ban forced Sterling to sell the Clippers and pay a $2.5 million fine. The Clippers team members took a stand against their owner during warm ups at their game last Sunday by wearing their practice jerseys inside out, hiding the team’s name. Other teams were prepared to take a stand too and boycott games if they did not see the punishment for Sterling fitting. After the announcement Tuesday however, many players and team organizations only praised the decision of the NBA commissioner, Adam Silver.

Investigation of Sexual Complaints at 55 Colleges
Under the federal law known as Title IX, discrimination based on gender is prohibited at schools that receive federal funding. 55 colleges and universities are now under investigation for violation of this law and their handling of sexual violence investigations. “We hope this increased transparency will spur community dialogue about this important issue,” said Catherine E. Lhamon, assistant secretary for civil rights. “I also want to make it clear that a college or university’s appearance on this list and being the subject of a Title IX investigation in no way indicates at this stage that the college or university is violating or has violated the law.”
