With spring break coming up, I know lots of us want to act like we’re naturally a nice deep tan, not the actual pasty tone we’re all hiding under our leggings. It’s an understandable desire that I share, but the tanning bed is not the way to go. According to American Academy of Dermatology, “Researchers estimate that indoor tanning may cause upwards of 400,000 cases of skin cancer in the U.S. each year,” and “Even one indoor tanning session can increase users’ risk of developing melanoma by 20 percent.” It’s easy to ignore these statistics when there are plenty of events in this time of our lives that make us want to glow, but there are plenty of other options. I totally understand the way a tan boosts your confidence, which is why I want to share some of my favorite alternatives to the tanning bed.

1. Jergen’s Natural Wet Skin Moisturizer

This stuff is so easy to use, and with a few applications, will get you a nice smooth tan. All you have to do is shower, exfoliate, apply. Once applied, let it air dry for a minute and then pat yourself dry with a towel. I am pretty fair-skinned, but typically buy the “medium to tan,” and am ready to go! It’s also easy to find at Target for only $8.49, which is totally worth it.

2. St. Tropez Self-Tan Bronzing Mousse

While this formula is definitely not as reasonably priced, it gives you a deep, lasting tan. Pump a liberal amount onto your body, then rub in a circular motion. Wait a few minutes to get dressed so you don’t stain your clothes! It can be found anywhere from Sephora, Ulta, or Amazon for $44.

3. Tan Towels

These guys work so well! To use, just exfoliate in the shower, dry off, and apply. Use one towel and see how you feel, and if you want a darker look, use another in a few hours. You can find these on Amazon, Sephora, or Ulta for about $15. In my opinion, these are the best option if you’re running late and want to apply something quick and easy.

Don’t give up that glow you’re craving – just take care of your young, beautiful skin, and thank me later.
