It’s been a while since we’ve heard new music from Marina Diamandis, known professionally as Marina and the Diamonds. But last month, the singer-songwriter took to Twitter to announce she is currently in Los Angeles finishing production on her upcoming album. On Twitter, she wrote:
“Hello friends, I hope you’re all enjoying the summer! I’m on my way to LA to finish production on my next record and I feel so happy with it. I know it’s been a while but I promise this record will be worth the wait! See you in the Autumn, Love, Marina.”
This news comes after Diamandis removed her Instagram account and tweeted a picture of herself in Sweden with the caption: “Writing music in Stockholm – So happy! Love you all, x,” leading fans to believe a new album is in the works.
To top it off, Diamandis has also been spotted out and about with singer Lana Del Rey many times in the past year. When Del Rey’s album Lust for Life was released during July 2017, many fans were expecting a collab with Diamandis because they had been spotted together so much. Since there was no collab on Del Rey’s record, will there be one for Diamandis’ record?
Diamandis’ last record, Froot, was released March 13, 2015. Since then, Diamandis and Clean Bandit collaborated on the song “Disconnect,” which was released on June 23, 2017. In October 2017, an unreleased demo track of the song “I’m Not Hungry Anymore” surfaced online. It was believed to have been recorded for Froot, but was scrapped.
For her next record, Marina said in an interview with Abbey Road Studios that she is writing more than ever before and that she listens to a lot of pop music. Maybe her fourth album will sound more pop than her previous albums? This wouldn’t be far-fetched, as Diamandis has stated in the past that she describes herself as an “indie artist with pop goals.”
Since no songs from her upcoming record have been released yet, it’s still a mystery as to what Diamandis’ new record will sound like. Ultimately, whatever she decides to release will surely be worth the wait for all the fans who’ve waited years for her new music.
