What We Already Know About The Disney+ Streaming Service

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Belmont chapter.

The Walt Disney Company has been working on plans for their own streaming service, similar to Netflix for a few years now, and recently, the company has come out with some news about the service, which is called Disney+, and I am here to break down for you, everything we know about it so far.

Firstly, the streaming service houses a robust library of TV shows and movies we already know and love, but in year one it will release more than 25 original series and 10 original films, documentaries, and specials from some of our favorite storytellers. Disney also recently bought the rights to FOX, so all of the tv shows we all enjoy, like The Simpsons, will be featured on the new streaming service!

The next bit of exciting news is that Disney+ is coming so soon! You can begin streaming Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more on November 12, 2019! Disney has released that the streaming service will be priced around $6.99 a month and rumor on the street is that it will be ad-free. This is competitively priced with Netflix, which is about $12.99 for a standard plan, and Hulu, which is $7.99 for limited commercials, and $11.99 for no ads!

Here are some of the fun content you can expect to enjoy with Disney+! First up, your traditional Disney movies like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and others. There will also be new live-action movies like Lady and the Tramp, Stargirl, and Diary of a Female President. Pixar is also in the works of making Frozen 2, which already has a trailer out! Marvel Studios has been busy preparing for Avengers: Endgame, but expect to see more of your favorite Marvel Heros on Disney+! New live-action series like WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, a series about Loki, and Marvel’s What if…? will be appearing on Disney+. Plus, we should probably start blocking out time in our calendars because one-hundred Disney Channel Original Movies are coming to the service on day one, too. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series really is the start of something new! The 10-episode scripted series will be set at the real-life East High (where the original movie was filmed) and follow students to the opening night of their production of High School Musical. And as if that wasn’t enough, a new National Geographic series, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, will be available at launch. In the series, Jeff will be revealing a world of astonishing connections in seemingly familiar objects. Magic of the Animal Kingdom is a new documentary series where we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to take care of the wildlife at Disney’s the Animal Kingdom and Epcot’s SeaBase aquarium.

Now of course, not everything listed above will be available right from the start in November, but Disney does plan to put a ton of content on the service to begin with, and then add other new content once the service gets going. All I can say is, TAKE MY MONEY DISNEY!!
