1. Lorde

This New Zealand singer/songwriter is only 16 years old and already released her first EP, “The Love Club” in March 2013 while her actual album “Pure Heroine” drops on September 30th. Her real name is actually Ella Yelich-O’Connor; he picked Lorde as a stage name because she was always into royalty and aristocracy (hence the name Lord, which she made more feminine by adding the “e!”) Lorde is not your typical 16 year old who sings about boys and love. She is more edgy; her songs produce an electro-pop but alternative sound. You may know her single, Royals, which has been on the top of the charts for months now. If you love that song, make sure to check out: Tennis Court, Million Dollar Bills, and The Love Club. All of these tracks are catchy with a pop/rock/electronic mix.

2. Timeflies

Timeflies is definitely one of my new favorite artists. The duo, Cal and Rob are local Massachusetts boys and graduates of Tufts University. They’ve been buddies since their college years and became known as Timeflies through their YouTube channel. Cal is a free-stylin’ genius and Rob is a talented audio producer who creates catchy beats. Together, they never disappoint in making songs that keep you coming back for more. Their recent single, I Choose U, has become a fan favorite. I recommend new listeners to check out their weekly Timeflies Tuesday videos, which are dropped every Tuesday and are usually free styles.
Check out their YouTube channel for Timeflies Tuesday videos such as Under the Sea, Call Me Maybe, and iTribute

3. Bastille
This up-and-coming band are UK natives and are rising quickly in the US with their recent single, Pompeii. There songs have an indie, alternative, and rock feel to them, and are a little dark as well. But don’t fret- their songs are super catchy! The band loves to record acoustic tracks- raw versions of their songs in famous locations like the British Museum. Their debut record “Bad Blood” was released September 3 and has remained on top charts in both the UK and US. What I’ve noticed with this band is that whether they sing a slow sounding song or an upbeat catchy song, the songs always deliver an emotional and thoughtful experience for listeners.
Songs I definitely recommend listening to: Things We Lost in the Fire, Flaws, and Overjoyed.

4. Parachute
Parachute is an American pop/rock band who’ve already released three albums and gained immense success while the band members were attending University of Virginia. Their style of music is commonly compared to artists like We The Kings, Andy Grammer, and Kris Allen. Although the band is not so mainstream on radio stations, they have toured with Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson. My favorite songs from them are: Kiss Me Slowly, Meant To Be, She Is Love.

5. Goo Goo Dolls

This well-known rock band has been around since the late 1980s and has released many successful albums. Their latest album Magnetic, which was released in June, has become my top favorite out of all their albums. Their musical talent shines through and all of their songs are just so catchy. If you’re having a horribly miserable day, I guarantee after listening to this album you will feel so much better. Classic songs of theirs are: Sympathy and Iris, but I recommend listening to their new album Magnetic or at least the songs: Rebel Beat and When the World Breaks Your Heart.
