98 Degrees was great in my book, but they could have also been known as “The Nick Lachey Band which includes some other guys too.” I have no idea who the other guys in the group were (besides Nick’s brother, obviously) but that never mattered. 98 Degrees came out with some of the best sappy ballads of the 90’s. Now that I think of it, I can’t even recall one dance song by 98 Degrees, but their songs were so emotionally charged that it felt like they were singing ONLY to you. (so what if we were like… 10? Minor details) Their songs were tearjerkers and we all fell for it. 98 Degrees, even though I still can’t name anyone other than Nick, you are dearly missed.
P.S. Nick Lachey apparently just came out with an album of lullabies in honor of his new baby boy… Just another reason to still love him.
Before One Direction there was the most perfect British Boy Band, BBMAK. They weren’t awkwardly young, they didn’t wear skinny pants, and there were only three of them so it wasn’t overwhelming. To be straight up dramatic, their music was so happy it made me want to cry. I mean come on, their lyrics to “Out of My Heart” are “I feel fine, now the rain has gone and the sun has come to shine, nothing can get me down today.” You literally don’t get this level of happiness in songs anymore! Feeling down on a rainy day? Crank up some BBMAK and I swear that you’ll feel better every time!

LFO (AKA Lyte Funky Ones… I’m not kidding…) was by far one of the most underrated boy bands of the 90’s. They had the best summer anthems that still make us scream (embarrassingly) like little girls. I mean who doesn’t hear, “You like fun dip and cherry coke, I like the way you laugh when you tell a joke” and not freak out? With hits like “Summer Girls,” (as quoted earlier) “Girl on TV,” and “Every Other Time” this band was the bomb (sorry, I had to). Rest in peace Rich, you are missed! (“When I met you I said my name was Rich, you looked like a girl from Abercrombie & Fitch”)
O-Town was the first band to make it big after appearing on MTV’s “Making the Band.” If you ask me, this show was genius purely because it brought this group into our lives. While O-Town’s popularity was short-lived, there are rumors swirling around of a possible reunion with four out of the five members (Ashley is apparently the only one who isn’t game— whaaatttt!). We got a little glimpse into the after-life of O-Town with Ashley Parker Angel’s MTV show “There and Back” which, to be honest, was super depressing to watch. It had relationship problems, money problems, just think of some sort of life problem and this show hit it on the nail. But it’s okay, guys! We can still listen to “All or Nothing at All” and pretend that O-Town is still fresh off of their MTV glory and fame.

I’m putting these two power bands together because in the 90’s you were either a N’SYNC girl or a Backstreet girl. This was a serious rivalry; lunch tables were split with Backstreet vs. N’SYNC girls angrily eying down each other. They both had their pros and cons:
N’SYNC
Pros: They had amazing dance moves, original music videos (with trains and car chases, how EXCITING!), and Justin Timberlake
Cons: Matching denim outfits and Justin’s hair
Backstreet Boys
Pros: Lots of moody singing, dancing in the rain music videos, and Nick Carter when he was still cute
Cons: AJ went rogue and had to go to rehab which eventually resulted in their breakup (BUT, hello reunion!)
