Meet Cecilia Flynn, a transfer student who is making her mark on the Bentley community!
Â
Year: 2019
Age: 20
Major: Information Systems Audit and Controls    Â
Hometown: Lexington, MA
Her Campus Bentley: From where did you transfer to Bentley?
Cecilia Flynn: I transferred from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. It is also a private school with about 4,000 undergraduate students, but it doesn’t focus on business.
HCB: Growing up so close to Bentley, did you think you would end up here?
CF: I actually did not want to originally apply because it was so close. I had my heart set on going to a different state, but to be honest, I just ended up missing Boston.
HCB: What was your favorite thing to do as a kid?
CF: Horseback riding! (And it still is!) I used to be the crazy horse girl in elementary school. I would literally go to the barn every day after school—but I loved it!

HCB: What are you involved in on campus?
CF: On campus, I am involved in DSP, a professional fraternity. I am on the fundraising committee, which meets one extra time a week.
I also just joined Gamma Phi Beta. At Bentley, I didn’t make girlfriends right off the bat. Most of the first people I got close to here were guys, so I was really looking for a good way to connect with women. Even though I’ve only been in the sorority for a few weeks, Gamma Phi Beta has been great! I have a big, Indre—and of course Gabe, my wonderful twin ;).
HCB: Is DSP different here at Bentley compared to Roger Williams?
CF: A lot of the goals between the chapters at Bentley and RWU are the same, but it’s a completely different experience! At Roger Williams, we had a lot more requirements and the chapter was significantly larger. At Bentley, everyone is a lot closer, even though we don’t necessarily go to as many events. In addition, people seem far more motivated to help get things done at Bentley, so there is less of a need to set requirements.
HCB: Do you have a position in DSP?
CF: Yes! I am the current Vice President of Professional Events—which basically means I have to plan things. I haven’t planned any events yet because they are supposed to be next fall, but fingers crossed that everything will go okay!
Â
Â
HCB: Would you have joined a sorority at RWU?
CF: Roger Williams actually did not have any Greek life. To be honest, I did not even consider Greek life when choosing a school! It’s funny because it’s such a big part of my college experience now!
HCB: Why did you join a sorority?
CF: Although I made some good friends at Bentley, the majority of them were guys, and I didn’t like that! In high school and at Roger Williams, I always had a close group of girlfriends, and I think it is extremely important to have supportive women in your life! In addition, one of my friends at Bentley was joining and went through formal recruitment. I missed recruitment, but she told me that Gamma Phi Beta was still giving out bids. I decided to meet with one of the recruiters and we had an amazing conversation about the sorority! I quickly realized I wanted to be a part of it.
HCB: Do you have a job?
CF: I have two! I work about 17-19 hours a week between my two jobs. The first is for Vector Controls, a naval engineering company (boats). The majority of what I do is office administration work like dealing with files, answering the phone, and monitoring everything that comes in and out of the company. The other job is an operational internship for ESG associates. They are a sports facility management company (it’s a mouthful, but they basically build huge sports complexes with ice rinks and turf and weight rooms—and then contract with tenants to rent the space). My job is to help them with marketing, office administration, IT stuff, or basically whatever they need.

Â
HCB: Do you have any free time?
CF: LOL! On occasion! I do like to keep busy, but I am definitely looking forward to reducing my hours next semester. I would say on a normal day I have maybe 1 or 2 hours to myself tops.
HCB: What’s your favorite thing to do?
CF: I love, have always loved, and will always love horseback riding. This semester I have not had much time at all to ride (I’ve probably only gone 5 times), but it’s still my favorite thing.
