Fall Study Break Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

After studying for a few hours for that major test coming up,  you’ll probably hit a wall where nothing is actually entering your brain anymore. At this time, a break is a good idea because you need something to do to refresh your brain. Try one of these short activities to put yourself back in that studying mindset to ace your test!

Go for a Walk

Going for a walk around campus will give you some exercise, fresh air, and ability to revive yourself, so you can study extra hard once you get back. Go with a friend and find out about their day, or go alone and just clear your head. You can go online to mapmyrun.com to plan out a new route. With this, you’ll find out how long it takes to get some new scenery so you don’t accidentally walkall afternoon.

Make a Snack

Something that will absolutely help while all that studying is making you sleepy is making yourself a snack. A snack will give you the energy you need to continue and not fall asleep with your nose in a book. Nachos or grilled cheese sandwich are examples of simple but yummy choices. If you want a longer break or feel like being more elaborate, you can try some of these tasty seasonal Fall Foods and Recipes.

Call Someone

Have someone you haven’t called in a while? What about your grandparents? Or a good friend from high school? Catching up with someone is a nice relaxing way to take a break and will put you in a good mood for when you need to get back to your work. You could also talk on the phone while going for a walk for double the relaxation; just make sure to watch where you’re going!

Have a Dance Party!

The ultimate way to get over the homework-blahs is to have a quick dance party! Gather your roommates and crank up some music to really get yourself pumped up. Don’t get crazy enough to tire yourself out, but get your blood pumping.  Do some silly moves so you can return to your studying in a better mood.

ONE MORE TIP

Do NOT go on Facebook, Stumbleupon, or online shopping for a break! These things leave you glued to your computer, won’t help your mind set, and are pretty much more for procrastinating than a break. You want to be in a new mood when you return to your work, so make sure to choose something that leaves you happy, energized, and awake!
