We’ve all been to Chipotle or Bertucci’s for a bite to eat and Pinkberry for a quick yogurt stop, but did you know that Harvard Square holds so much more than that? There are at least 90 restaurants located in the area, some of which you’ve probably never heard of. So why don’t you save that extra dollar and time on the train and try some of these hidden places one shuttle stop away?
Finale Desserterie & Bakery – While on the more expensive side, Finale’s selection of desserts is one to splurge on. Their signature desserts include the Molten Chocolate, Peanut Butter Pie, and the Apple a la Mode. The dessert samples (6/9 different mini desserts of your choice) are also perfect to share with a friend or that special someone.
Mr. Bartley’s – I’m not sure why this place is located slightly farther away from the center of bustling Harvard Square, but if you’re willing to walk a little further from the usual spot, I promise you that this restaurant will be worth it! Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage opened in 1960 and its success has been proven by three generations of the Bartley family. What’s unique about this place are the names given to its delicious burgers – The Tom Brady, The Jersey Shore, The iPhone, The Mitt Romney, and The Lady Gaga. Order some potato fries to go along with your order as they are a must try! You’ll enjoy the atmosphere of its dining room covered with posters, cool signs, and bumper stickers. But make sure to come before rush hour as this place tends to be packed by its regulars.

The Maharaja – For those of you looking for some authentic cuisine, The Maharaja is a great Indian restaurant to try. The place is located above Staples and is furnished with Indian designs. If you’re not sure what to order, the Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer are always a favorite. They also serve one of the best Mango Lassi (Indian beverage blend of mango, milk, yogurt, and honey) around!
L.A. Burdick Chocolate – What’s better than a nice cup of hot chocolate on those cold winter nights? L.A. Burdick’s selection of rich hot chocolate – milk, dark, or white – will satisfy your chocolate craving. They also serve desserts and macaroons, which I highly recommend.
Fire & Ice – If you’re looking for a place to eat with a large group, this Mongolian grill is a fun one to go to. You pick out your own food and hand it over to a cook who grills everyone’s dish in a huge round grill. It’s amazing to see these cooks work their magic right in front of you. Monday Nights are also College Nights. So if you go with a valid college ID, you can feast on an unlimited dinner for only $9.95.
