HC Bentley Staff: Biggest Fashion Risks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

For our fashion themed week, we thought it would be fun to ask our HC Bentley staff what the biggest fashion risk they ever took was… and whether it was fabulous or fell completely flat! Our Collegiette staff weighs in:

My biggest fashion risk was when I was younger and I got my hair cut in a bob style to my chin. It was definitely not a success because it didn’t complement the shape of my face and I hated it until it grew out again.
-Jess Jacovino

My biggest fashion risk was adopting skinny jeans back in 2008 when they were first starting to get popular. I was the first of my friends to start wearing them and it was weird, but now I don’t own anything else! It turned out to be a great decision on my part.
-Beth Mahoney

In high school, probably around sophomore year I chopped off all my hair trying to pull off a chic bob cut and it was the worst decision ever. I was not devoted enough to the haircut and I couldn’t spend that much time styling it every morning. And back then I had even thicker hair than I have now, so it just looked so awkward. Growing it out was painfully slow, but recently I’ve been thinking about getting it all cut off again. So I guess I haven’t really learned my lesson!

During formal recruitment we have to wear the same black t-shirt every day.  After wearing the same blue jeans and black t-shirt combo twice in a row, I decided to wear bright green jeans! Everyone thought they were so cute and kept asking me where I got them. They were only $15 at Forever21 and people thought they were from JCrew! It was cool.
            -Becky Finn

Hmmm… I probably have too many of these. I’d have to say my most recent one is my Doc Martens, AKA emo boots. I was apprehensive to wear them because they aren’t a typical “cute” shoe. And although I have been getting mixed reviews, many of them have been positive and I like them!
-Sophia Tarquinio
I wore tiny daisy dukes with red stockings during the fall with tall brown boots. I was nervous because jean shorts are obviously a summer trend but paired with cranberry colored tights and brown boots with grey socks, it was so much more “fall” than I ever could have imagined. It was cute!
            -Hannah Gerry

When I was abroad in Italy, I splurged to buy this gorgeous pair of black heels to be able to go out in once I got back to America.  Even though I’m not much of a heel person, after seeing these shoes, there was no way I couldn’t buy them, even if they were four inches high!  I had only tried them on in the store and once I got back home, my family and I had an event to attend where we I thought it would be just brilliant to wear my brand new, sky-high heels.  Literally after wearing them for ten minutes I thought I was going to die, not only was I walking like Bambi on a frozen pond, but they hurt so bad even just standing on them was excruciating! While the shoes got many compliments, walking around barefoot was not exactly the fashion statement I was trying to make!

Tip: Taking a fashion risk may seem scary at first, but if you think you look good, confidence is half the key to pulling it off!

What’s the biggest fashion risk you’ve ever taken?
