Katie Miller ’13, President of CRAZE

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Our new campus celebrity is CRAZE President, Katie Miller! Besides being an all-around sweet person, she is in charge of running one of Bentley’s most talented organizations, CRAZE, a hip-hop dance team. We caught up with Katie who told us all about her experiences with dance and what we can look forward to from CRAZE!

What made you first get into this style of dance?

I started taking dance lessons when I was 2 years old and stayed at the same studio until I was 18. I started taking hip hop classes in 6th grade and it instantly turned into my favorite style of dance. I was also on my high school’s competitive dance team and we became state champions 4 consecutive years. I wanted to continue my love for hip hop in college which is why I tried out for CRAZE my freshman year.

What challenges do you face being the leader of this group?
I love being President of CRAZE but it is definitely a huge commitment. I have to stay in constant contact with our faculty advisor, our choreographer, other organizations that want us to perform at their events, and all the members of the team. I’m so thankful for my iPhone because I’m constantly receiving emails that need immediate responses. I also get a lot of help from the rest of the Executive Board and I couldn’t be successful without them.
Vice President: Lauren Tessier
Treasurer: Kaila Reed
Secretary:Katrina Anderson
Creative Director:Katie Fisher

It’s challenging to stay on top of everything and sometimes I get really stressed out but it’s all worth it in the end. I’m extremely proud to be President of such a successful organization!

Where does CRAZE get its inspiration?
We get a lot of our inspiration from our talented choreographer, Stephanie Hubbard, who was on CRAZE until she graduated from Bentley in 2008. She pushes us to reach our full potential and we don’t know what we’d do without her.

We also get a lot of our inspiration from professional hip hop groups in the area such as Phunk Phenomenon who landed a spot on MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.” When we dance at hip hop shows in the area, we enjoy watching other groups perform because seeing their energy inspires us to kill it every time we step on stage.

Finally, every member of CRAZE genuinely loves the team and wants to continue to see the organization grow. We work hard as a team to promote ourselves in a positive manner and put on a good show at whatever event we perform at!

What does CRAZE have coming up for us?
We have a car wash coming up on Saturday, April 14th on North campus! Tickets are $5 and all the money we make is going to help us with our show Rhythmic Graffiti in the fall.

As far as performances go we have our biggest show of the semester on Friday, April 13th. We’re performing at Wellesley College’s show “Jam on It” which features hip hop groups from all over Boston. It’s an extremely prestigious show and we’re excited to perform there again this year! We’d love if Bentley students came out to show support. If you love our annual show “Rhythmic Graffiti” then you’ll definitely love this show as well! The show starts at 7pm in Alumnae Hall at Wellesley College.
Also, our show Rhythmic Graffiti was nominated for a Falcon Award, Most Outstanding Program, so vote on My Bentley today!
