Dedicated to those who were killed in the Parkland shooting, those who survived, and all the heroic men and women who prevented countless more deaths.

Parkland

Sunny, peaceful

Living, laughing, loving

A beautiful Florida town

Destroyed

Students

Cherished, treasured

Learning, working, growing

With promising futures ahead

Taken

Gunman

Brutal, savage

Scaring, shooting, killing

Ending innocent children’s lives

Murder

Feelings

Angry, distraught

Sobbing, shouting, grieving

Aching for missing companions

Sorrow

Problem

Hidden, unseen

Finding, seeing, knowing

Criminals murder, not weapons

Cruelty

DC

Hasty, foolish

Ruling, passing, taking

Liberty disappears with them

Power

Freedom

Great, glorious

Fading, dimming, ending

Traded for false security

Over

Time doesn’t heal all wounds, but neither does taking away freedom. While my heart goes out to those affected by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, passing more gun regulations is not the answer. Let’s all work together to prevent violence in a way that does not involve getting rid of treasured liberty.

I am a senior at Bentley University with a major in marketing. I plan to go to law school after finishing my undergrad.
Native New Yorker Brooke Camarda has had her eclectic share of jobs—from the runways of NYFW to the haunted hallways of NYZ Apocalypse. Commonly known by her alter ego of Wonder Woman, there's no task or adventure that the skydiving-enthusiast isn't willing to take on. She loves typography and cappuccinos almost as much as she loves her (very) big family, and is thrilled to be writing for Bentley University's chapter of Her Campus.
