Ever thought about studying abroad but didn’t know what schools there were or where to go? Finally, you’re in luck! Welcome to the first week of Study Abroad Spotlight! Every week I will be spotlighting one of the amazing schools that Bentley has a study abroad partnership with (for a full list of the schools click here!). I will let you know all the basics you need to know to help you decide where to go!
Before I begin, let me tell you a little bit about me and why I wanted to start this column. I am currently a senior here at Bentley. In the fall of my junior year, I made one of the best decisions ever to study abroad in England! After coming back from abroad I became a study abroad peer advisor and I realized that lots of people have trouble picking schools so I’m hoping this column will help!
The first school I am going to profile is Royal Holloway University of London which I was lucky enough to spend three months at.

Advice from a Study Abroad Peer Adviser: Try and take most of your major classes at Bentley. It is much easier to take arts and sciences classes here or other general education classes. You might be able to take one or two business related classes but don’t plan on taking more than two here. Don’t let the location scare you away. Egham is close to London and there are lots of local things to do every day. In my opinion, living on campus in a rural area helped me to build stronger relationships with locals and other RHUL students. You all spent all of your time together on campus or in Egham and you became close very easily.
Social Scene: Approximately 20% of students are international (from more than 130 countries). There are lots of things to do and see in Egham and in London. Egham is a great little town with lots of restaurants and places to shop. Royal Holloway has several bars and restaurants and coffee shops on campus. There is also the Students Union, which serves as a nightclub several nights a week.
Transportation and Travel: Royal Holloway is a mere seven miles away from Heathrow Airport. The center of London is merely 20 miles away (40 minutes by train). Traveling around Europe is extremely easy from London. You can take the Eurostar train to several nearby countries such as Paris or you can fly out from any of the airports such a Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, etc.
Some (personal favorite) Places to Go: On campus: Café Jules, Student Union, The Hub, Crossroads Café, Medicine; Egham: Forrester’s Arms, Monkey’s Forehead, Tesco, The Red Lion, Egham Essentials, Café Nero; Nando’s in Staines (nearby town), Windsor Castle in Windsor (nearby town), Liquid in Windsor (nearby town)
