The Summer To-Do List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bentley chapter.

Summer is so close I can feel the sand between my toes already.  It’s the time when country music is constantly in the air, showing some skin is on trend, and shoes are optional.  I know the first thing on my list this summer is to relax , but after a week of veg’ing out I know I will be antsy and want to go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather.  Here are the top things on my list this summer that I hope will inspire you:

1)    Take pictures.

Taking pictures is always so much fun, but I often rely on others to take them for me an upload them to Facebook.  This summer, I pledge to take more pictures with a real camera, not my iPhone, and I plan on making an old school photo album to document my summer.

2)    Go on a road trip.

This, I believe, is on the top of everyone’s list, and I am determined to go on a road trip this year.  I usually only travel around the East Coast and it’s time to give some other states some lovin’. The best way to do it is the classic American road trip.  What is more patriotic than that?

3)    Take up a sport.

I played tennis in high school and I am ashamed to say that I have yet to pick up a racket since then.  During the semester I always get wrapped up in school work and never make the time to visit the court.  Well, this summer, I am going to re-live the high school memories.  It is a great way to get some exercise while also enjoying the lovely weather.

4)    Get involved.

I love doing community service, but have been lagging this year.  Just like tennis, I have not lost sight of my passion for community service and am dedicating my summer to helping others and volunteering at a soup kitchen.  Not only is it a great resume builder, but even more so enriches your life.

5)    Start a journal.

I always make weak attempts to start journals and never stick to them.  Journaling is a great way to express yourself.  At the end of the summer, you can read all of your entries and remember all of the great things you accomplished!

6)    Kiss in the rain.

Isn’t that everyone’s summer dream?

7)    Get plenty of sun.

Freckles are a good look for everyone and it nice to get some much needed vitamin D after a long winter.  Whether you’re tanning on the beach, swimming in a pool, or playing an outdoor sport, take advantage of the beautiful summer days!

8)    Take my dog for a walk.

When I’m at school I miss my pets so much, perhaps even more than my parents.  I love taking my dog to the park and having some quality time.  We also love going to get ice cream together.  Who ever said that dog is a man’s best friend?  What about us girls?

9)    Go thrift shopping.

I never have the time and patience during school to sift through racks of thrifted clothes during school, but I can’t wait to go back home and visit my favorite second hand shops and discover new ones.  Never be afraid to turn those thrifted jeans into cutoff shorts.  And saving some money is an added benefit!
